THE WORLD OF 3D PRINTING

Everything you need to know about 3d printing technologies and materials.

Until a few years ago in order to make any object or prototype it was necessary to resort only to the various traditional methods such as milling and turning; in some cases especially in the automotive world, manual modeling was widely used.

All traditional processing required a considerable amount of time, material waste and high production costs.

With 3d printing, production costs have been greatly reduced and processing time shortened, giving us the ability to deliver the prototype in a tight time frame.

In addition, any morphology can be made without design limitations, unlike traditional machining.

Once the printing is finished, one can immediately see whether the object exactly matches the initial design or idea, without having wasted materials and manpower hours. Having defined the model, if mass production were to begin, two paths can then be considered:

– 3D print the whole series

– print only one mold and use traditional casting methods.

In any case, the final product will be economical, accurate, and produced in a very short time.

A variety of processing technologies and different materials suitable for meeting all customer requirements are available. You will find below a description of the technologies and materials.

SLS 3d printing with powder sintering machine

The SLS 3d Printer enables through laser sintering of various powders, to produce functional objects, with excellent surface resolution.

The most commonly used materials are PA12 (for functional prototypes), glass-filled PA12 (for high-temperature resistant prototypes), fiber-reinforced PA12 (for prototypes requiring use and testing in harsh environments). TPU, a rubber-like material suitable for the production of gaskets and rubber parts, is also available.

Even large objects can be made, and for XL sizes we use epoxy glues so that multiple parts can be glued together to make one solid model.

3d printer SLA Stereolithography

Stereolithography makes it possible to produce objects of the highest surface quality, perfectly smooth, with no machining marks comparable to an object produced by traditional methods.

This technology is suitable for the production of objects intended for display, representative, or trade show uses; it is also suitable for use in non-repetitive functional testing due to the wide selection of specific resin types.

Even large objects can be made.

Various types of resins are available that are suitable for high temperatures, transparent resins for production type lights or rubber-like resins with Shore_A 40 or Shore_A 80.

3d FDM printer

The 3d FDM Printer allows through the fusion of a wire of specific material to the realization of purely functional objects suitable for intensive use, with a surface resolution where machining marks are visible, but can be removed manually.

There are several materials available suitable to meet any customer’s needs; the most common is ABS suitable for functional and dimensional testing, but more durable materials are available, suitable for high temperatures and processing in harsh environments with resistance to solvents and hydrocarbons.

Even large objects can be made, and for XL sizes we use epoxy glues so that multiple parts can be glued together to make one solid model.

Transparent materials

We do specialty vehicle design for airports, agricultural vehicles, crane cabs, fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and any type of vehicle that needs to be customized according to the end use.

We provide a complete project starting from design to the last construction board, including assembly manual and construction exploded views.

Rubber-like materials

Starting from basic information provided by the customer, we develop designs in any context, from automotive, medical, giftware, artistic, covers and casings to cover electronic parts, etc.

We provide designs that are already thought out in order to keep costs low for production and that are actually feasible.

High temperature resistant materials

Designing special means, we develop custom curved glass for cabs and motor vehicles on a daily basis by providing the relevant 3d file and dimensioning and machining tables.

Functional materials

We design carpentry structures for various manufacturing sectors, developing both tubular frames and sheets for laser cutting and bending, providing all documentation for construction and eventual approval.

Silicone mold master materials

Starting from the 3d file of the object, we prepare it for the production process by thermoforming by adding molds, etc., and then make the mold by numerically controlled machines, which depending on the production will be with cooling or without.
